mama joon’s halva


saffron and rosewater are good friends...

nothing sweeter than sitting in mama joon’s kitchen having sips of chai and spoonfuls of halva.

iranian halva is a rose-water saffron paste based on flour and oil, and therefore differs from the arab tahin-based halvas. halva differs across regions; in bijar it is sweetened with ginger and is like chewy candy, in Shiraz it is sweeter than mama joon’s semnani halva…

must be eaten in small spoonfuls, and is fabulous for breaking your fast!
